Terms & Conditions


Full terms and conditions for Confetti Cakes and Chocolates are detailed below.  By paying your deposit it will be deemed that the terms are understood and accepted as applying to your order.


Payment Conditions

Lead Times:

Booking is advisable as early as possible to ensure your date is secured, particularly during the summer season.  Sponge cakes need to be baked fresh for your event, so I need to restrict the amount of cakes that I can make each week.

Rich fruit cakes should be ordered 3 months prior to your celebration to allow the best possible result (maturing) of the finished cake.

From a technical point of view, wedding cakes should be ordered 3 months prior to your special date.  All other celebration cakes can have a lead time of 1 month.


Prices:

All prices are non-negotiable, and priced according to your exact design and size/s of your cake; if you require me to work to a specific budget then I will adjust your design accordingly where possible.  I do not price match, as the price of your celebration cake is based upon your unique requirements and my high standard of work and quality of the ingredients used.

Following your consultation/enquiry, your quote will be valid for 2 months, paying your deposit (see below) secures this price and prevents any further price increase, except in exceptional circumstances beyond Confetti Cakes and Chocolates control, e.g. exceptional fuel price increase, raw material price increase, change of clients requirement from agreed design etc.


Flowers:

If your cake requires fresh flowers, then these are not included in the price of your celebration cake.  Confetti Cakes and Chocolates can work with your florist to provide flowers that co-ordinate with your event, it is therefore your responsibility to inform the florist that their bill for the cake flowers should be settled directly with yourselves.  If sub-standard flowers are provide by your florist, Confetti Cakes and Chocolates reserve the right to refuse to use them.


Deposit:

A non-refundable deposit of £50 will secure your special date and a total of 50% deposit (total of the cake and delivery price) is required in order to secure the commission of your cake. For orders under £200, full payment is required to secure the date, and no later than 3 weeks before the event.


Payment:

Payment should be made by bank transfer or cheque.  Details will be discussed and agreed at consultation.  Please email info@confetticakesandchocolates.co.uk with confirmation of bank transfer in order that prompt acknowledgment of payment can be confirmed to the client.  Final payment for your celebration cake is required no later than 3 weeks before the collection/delivery.  It is your responsibility to remember to send this payment as a reminder invoice is not issued.  I will provide bank details if you wish to use internet banking to settle your account at the time of consultation.

If you wish to pay your deposit and settle your account by cheque, Confetti Cakes and Chocolates will require a post-dated cheque for final payment for your celebration cake, this can be forwarded with your deposit, and should be dated 3 weeks before the date of your celebration.  Unfortunately, Confetti Cakes and Chocolates cannot accept debit/credit card payments.

If you wish to settle your account in cash, please discuss this with me at you consultation.


Late Payments:

If your deposit is not paid within 2 months of quoting then Confetti Cakes and Chocolates reserve the right to cancel any previous arrangements.  If full payment is not received and cleared in the bank account before the event, then the order will not be released.


Cancellation:

If cancellation of the event takes place, we reserve the right to retain your 50% deposit.  If cancellation takes place 3 weeks before the event then we reserve the right to keep 75% of the total price, or if cancellation occurs 7 days prior to your event, then 100% of the value will be retained to cover the costs of production of the cake.

Cancellation must be made in writing (by letter or email) to Confetti Cakes and Chocolates and will only be deemed to take effect from the date your letter/email is received at Confetti Cakes and Chocolates premises.

If you postpone your event, Confetti Cakes and Chocolates will endeavour to transfer your order, providing the date is suitable for rebooking, otherwise it shall be treated as a cancellation (see above). Confetti Cakes and Chocolates reserve the right to cancel the booking in very unusual circumstances beyond our control, such as fire, ill health, during which Confetti Cakes and Chocolates will refund any money taken in full.



Design Conditions

Alterations and Changes:

It is your responsibility to read and check the quote thoroughly and sign as agreed by yourself and the cake designer; any amendments should be made in writing.

If required, Confetti Cakes and Chocolates will endeavour to adjust the design where possible, but sometimes this is not possible according to the nature of the request or amount of notice given.  If the alteration affects the cost, or preparation work or the original design has already been undertaken, then your balance will be adjusted accordingly.  Please warn Confetti Cakes and Chocolates when you pay your deposit if you are undecided on the final design of your Confetti Cake.

Confetti Cakes and Chocolates reserve the right to change the design at any point if circumstance beyond our control may compromise the quality of the finished cake, e.g. melting of a chocolate cake due adverse hot weather and/or venue.

Each cake is crafted individually by hand, so although every effort is made to ensure consistency, a small amount of variation may occur from the picture supplied.


Chocolate:

Confetti Cakes and Chocolates recommend extreme caution if you are considering a cake decorated with chocolate for a summer celebration (May-September).  Confetti Cakes and Chocolates cannot accept responsibility for any melting of the cake once it has left our possession, as Confetti Cakes and Chocolates does not have any control over the environmental/venue temperature.  Confetti Cakes and Chocolates can however, advice you of designs that are less susceptible to melting and do everything within our control to reduce the impact on the cake.


Cutting Cake:

If you have chosen a cutting cake you will have been charged a significantly lower cost than if the equivalent was provided as part of your tiered celebration cake.  This reduced rate is possible because your cutting cake will not be iced with sugar paste or be decorated like your celebration cake.  If you would like your cutting cake to be covered in a plain layer of sugar paste, or marzipan and sugar paste for a rich fruit cake, this will be charged accordingly.


Home Baked Fruit Cakes:

Confetti Cakes and Chocolates understand the sentimental significance of having a family member bake your fruit cake, which you may request be decorated for your special event.  Confetti Cakes and Chocolates are happy to do this for fruit cakes only, however, Confetti Cakes and Chocolates must ask that the cake/s conform to our strict guidelines so that you can achieve an appropriate finished look and are not disappointed with the end result.  The final depth of the cake should be no less than 3.5 inches and consistent increments in size (6”, 8”, 10”, and 12”).  Please enquire for further advice before baking the cake.



Allergies and Special Dietary Requirements

Special Diets:

Please discuss with me if any of your guests have special dietary requirements.  It may be preferable for us to discuss the possibility of the client purchasing a suitable cake from a dedicated cake maker that specialise in producing cakes for all allergies.  This, from a health and safety point of view, is often the safest option, as, although ingredients can be removed from cakes to account for allergies, these products are routinely used in my kitchen so Confetti Cakes and Chocolates cannot guarantee that any of our cakes are completely free of all traces for guests who are highly sensitive.  Please refer to our cake ingredient and allergy advice in relation to this.


Non-Edible Items:

Most cakes contain small proportions of inedible items; it is the client’s responsibility to ensure these are removed by your caterer/guests before consumption, e.g. support dowels, ribbons, wires in sugar flowers, Swarovski crystals, flower picks and flower tape.

Some flowers and leaves are poisonous, (Ivy being an example), and are therefore not suitable for use on food products.  You should notify your flower supplier of your intention to use fresh flowers on food to ensure that non-poisonous flowers are used in the arrangement.


Delivery Conditions

Delivery charge is calculated on a mileage and time basis.  Alternatively, cakes can be collected from Confetti Cakes and Chocolates.

If you choose delivery, it is our intention that your cake will be delivered in perfect condition prior to the start of your celebration.  However, we ask for patience with factors that may be beyond our control (traffic conditions) as Confetti Cakes and Chocolates cannot be held liable for any such delays.  In most circumstances, Confetti Cakes and Chocolates may recommend the cake be delivered 1 day in advance.  It is the client’s responsibility to ensure you inform us of your correct ceremony and reception time plus the postcode of the venue.  In the unlikely event of late delivery, the maximum compensation will be a refund of the delivery price.

In the extremely unlikely event of damage due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g. car accident during delivery destroying the cake) Confetti Cakes and Chocolates will endeavour to provide a replacement display cake for your “cutting” photograph, a cutting cake for your guests to enjoy, as well as a 50% refund.

Confetti Cakes and Chocolates will not be held liable for any damage that is rendered to the cake at the venue once we have left the premises.

If you choose to collect the cake, Confetti Cakes and Chocolates will not be held liable for any damage to the cake once it has left our premises.  Tiered cakes are most at risk during transport, so please seek our advice on how to transport it, and we highly recommend you check your wedding insurance covers cake damage.  To ensure your cake is as fresh as possible, Confetti Cakes and Chocolates recommend it is collected the day before your celebration.

If any damage does occur to the cake whilst in your possession, Confetti Cakes will endeavour to rectify the damage where possible, however, it is your responsibility to ensure the cake is returned to my premises for any reparative work to be undertaken.

Late requests for delivery (after securing the booking based on collection) will be accommodated where possible, but cannot be guaranteed, as earlier delivery commitments must take priority.


Fresh Flowers:

Confetti Cakes and Chocolates recommend that arranged flowers on our cakes is done by ourselves as we cannot take responsibility for any damage rendered to the cake caused by a floral arrangement supplied by your florist.

If fresh flowers are to be used, the cake will be set-up as late as feasibly possible to ensure the flower’s freshness throughout the day, but depending on the varieties used and the weather conditions at the time and the ambient temperature of your venue, it may be necessary to cut the cake relatively early on the day of the proceedings to ensure the flower’s freshness for the photography.


Cake Table:

It is the client’s responsibility to ensure suitable arrangements are made for the cake table; linen, cake stand and knife, which should all be set-up prior to our arrival.  Failure to ensure this may mean Confetti Cakes and Chocolates may have to leave the cake with the event manager to assemble/move into position as appropriate.

Please take extra care to ensure a stable and level cake table if you are having a marquee celebration venue, as surrounding floor boards can easily rock the cake once stood on!


Cake Stand Hire:

It is up to the client to hire the appropriate cake stand and cutting knife/sword from a suitable supplier. The cost of this will be borne by the client and no cross charging will be undertaken by Confetti Cakes and Chocolates.  It is the sole responsibility of the client to ensure that the cake stand is delivered to the venue prior to the cake delivery.

It is solely up to the client to ensure that any hired items from a third party are returned in good order once the event has finished. 



Storage and Consumption

Damage:

Please remember that cake decorations are very delicate items and we at Confetti Cakes and Chocolates cannot accept responsibility for damage that is done to the cake after it has left our possession.  This includes any decoration implemented by your florist; it is for this reason that Confetti Cakes and Chocolates highly recommend you allow the team to arrange the cake display for you.

If any damage is rendered to the cake after it has left Confetti Cakes and Chocolates possession, then you can advise us and request a repair, which will be costed accordingly, including transport costs if appropriate.


Cake Cutting:

For your photo, please cut the base tier of your cake, unless it is a dummy cake, in which case you should cut the tier above.  If using a pedestal cake stand, please take care not to put undue pressure on one side of the cake, to ensure it remains stable.

Confetti Cakes and Chocolates portion guides are intended as a guide only (based on a 4cm cube) and will vary according to how the individual chef/venue cuts the cake.  Confetti Cakes and Chocolates recommend you warn your caterers if each cake is a different type/flavour, so that they can cut into them all and serve some of each flavour to your guests.


Best Before Date:

Your Confetti Cake is baked to ensure it is fresh for the date of your event.  After this date, we advise sponge cakes are frozen as soon as possible to ensure its condition is retained; otherwise, Confetti Cakes and Chocolates cannot guarantee it’s quality if it is consumed more than 48 hours after the event.  Confetti Cakes  and Chocolates are made entirely of natural ingredients, and are also exceptionally moist, so we would like to remind you that because of this they will not have the extended shelf life of most supermarket cakes, which are not only drier but contain additives and preservatives to ensure their prolonged life.  Freezing the cake however, preserves the taste of the sponge and icing as much as feasibly possible, but please bear in mind that it will affect the visual appearance of the icing, as condensation will form upon defrosting.  Food hygiene recommendations in relation to freezing fresh food is that food should only be frozen for a maximum 3 months.

Rich fruit cakes however, can be kept for quite a few months if wrapped in a double layer of greaseproof paper and foil, and then kept in an air tight tin.  A plastic container will make the icing sweat.

If you don’t have a particular occasion to save your cake for, I recommend cutting it into chunks so that one portion can be taken out at a time.


Storage Conditions:

If you plan to keep any of the cake tiers, please advise me what cake boxes you would like to be left on site (so that you can safely transport them the following day).  Otherwise, I shall remove all cake boxes from the venue to ensure it is left as tidy as possible.

Once home, the cake should be wrapped in cling film to remove as much air as possible, then stored in an air tight container before freezing for a maximum of 3 months.  The cake should not be refrozen if defrosted; therefore, it may be appropriate for you to cut it into convenient portion sizes before freezing, so that it can be defrosted on a per portion basis.

Sugar paste cakes should not be refrigerated, as it will cause condensation to form on the surface of the icing.  Refrigeration also accelerates the staling of the flour in the cake, so should only be used with extreme caution, e.g. if hot weather is compromising the quality of a chocolate decorated cake.


Miniature Cake Boxes:

Confetti Cakes and Chocolates advise you to inform your venue in advance if you have miniature cakes that require boxing, so that they have time to prepare and allocated staff.  Your boxes will be assembled and prepared beforehand, so all they need to do is slip the cakes in and tie the ribbon, which should be equivalent to the time it takes to cut the cake.


Complaints:

If you have concerns about your cake, please notify Confetti Cakes and Chocolates upon delivery/inspection so that Confetti Cakes and Chocolates will have the opportunity to rectify it in time for your event, by contacting Margaret on her mobile 07552 740170.  Confetti Cakes and Chocolates highly recommend a member of the family/event manager as the designated point of contact for the day, to help ensure all runs smoothly.

All other concerns should be made in writing, and evidence of the fault should be included.  A refund is only given if the uneaten cakes are returned, and are unsuitable for consumption, not as described in the written quote.  No refunds are given due to change of mind.

In the unlikely event of late delivery (defined as delivery after the start of the wedding breakfast), the maximum compensation will be a refund of the delivery price.  Confetti Cakes and Chocolates ask for patience with factors that may be beyond our control (e.g. traffic conditions) as we cannot be held liable for any such delays.
